Miscellaneous Ways of Promotion

Using Free Classified:
If one thing is sure about the Internet, it’s that nothing is for sure about the internet. As I write this and if I search Google.com and type “Free Classified Ads,” there are 70-80 pages of ten sites each – Every site devoted to free classified ads.


You can place your ads on these websites free of cost.


Simply follow the guidelines set by the free classified ad site, some of which allow you to offer graphics, and keep testing headlines so that you know which one pulls best for you. Since the offer of free classified ads is almost too good to refuse, many forward-thinking companies run them regularly. To you, this means that your ad may appear on the top of page 1 on a Monday, then falls to the middle of the page 5 on Tuesday. The way to combat this is to submit a new classified ad each day - with a slightly different headline. Sure, it takes time, energy, and imagination, but it is free, and it does reward you for your efforts. In the website or URL field you have to enter the affiliate link taken from CJ for keyword link. Yes, you have to use here the same affiliate link you use for Google AdWords destination URL.


When writing your ad for the classified section, remember that, unlike a display ad , which few people search for, people are actively looking for just the kind of things that you offer. They are hot prospects just by virtue of looking for that particular classified section. Keep that in mind. Be sure to avoid too many capital letters, and check to make sure your punctuation and spelling are perfect. Write as though you are addressing a single individual and not a group. Tell people what they are supposes do: visit the advertiser website, makes a signup or purchase something. You are referring the product and not selling this as the people trust more on recommendation.

If your free classified ad is not submitted regularly it will go to the bottom or to the next page and the ads that require visitors to go to 4th and 5th pages probably won't be seen. Keeping your ad on page 1 takes constant work, but with the cost in mind, I hope the work does not bother you. Being consistent and easily visible should be two of your goals. Testing is incredibly easy and inexpensive in this arena. Enough testing will net you the right words, the right headline, and the right outcome.



To place your links in free classified, just visit any free classified website and you will see the link for 'post your ad', 'post free ad', 'place your ad' etc. Just click the link and then you can place your ads there. You just have to write some description and your link. Here your link means the Keyword link that you get from the advertisers.


Here we are providing web addresses some of the Free Classified websites or you can search in search engines like Google, Yahoo, MSN.
Online forums are discussion groups focused on a single topic, such as hang gliding or Barbie dolls. Unlike newsgroups, which are simply discussion groups, online forums may also contain libraries of files posted by members and chat rooms where members can talk things over online. They may even have their own classified ad areas.


Your potential audience in a forum or newsgroups is anyone who has online access and is interested in the forum's topic. Many forums and newsgroups - and there are over one million of them - are followed by thousands of people throughout the world. And it doesn't cost you one cent to talk to these good people.


If you decide to take advantage of this kind of marketing, don't post a crass marketing message or an ad for your business. That's a surefire way to make enemies. Instead, ask a question and begin a dialogue. The rule: look first and read what's going on, then post your message. That way you will know what's acceptable in the way of promotional message. You will learn the appropriate length for a posting, the topics that are of most interest to other members, which group members are most active, and which messages or titles of messages draw the most responses. All along, you can collect names for your email list. Don't waste anyone's time. Be helpful as you can, and be patient. It's free, but it rarely pays instant dividends.

Affiliate Promotion through Email Marketing:

Definition of Email Marketing:

The practice of sending sales letters or customer newsletters by email. While some individuals think it can be annoying, many businesses find it a cost effective marketing tool. Email communications are often more effective than printed direct mail, because a reader can click on a link and go straight to the sender's web site.

Definition of Opt-In Email Marketing:
Opt-in e-mail advertising or permission marketing is a method of advertising by electronic mail wherein the recipient of the advertisement has consented to receive it. It is one of several ways developed by marketers to eliminate the disadvantages of e-mail marketing.

E-mail has become a very popular mode of communication across the world. It has also become extremely popular to advertise through. Some of the many advantages of advertising through e-mail are the direct contact with the consumer and it is "inexpensive, flexible, and simple to implement" (Fairhead, 2003). There are also disadvantages attached to e-mail advertising such as alienating the consumer because of overload to messages or the advertisement getting deleted without getting read.

A common example of permission marketing is a newsletter sent to firm’s customers. Newsletters like this are a way to let customers know about upcoming events or promotions, or new products. In this type of advertising, a company that wants to send a newsletter to their customers may ask them at the point of purchase if they would like to receive this newsletter.

Important Notice: How to choose good advertisers in CJ:

There are 2 types of advertisers in CJ who pay you commission. Some pay you for LEAD i.e. when you promote them and someone makes a free signup on the advertisers website and some pay you for SALE i.e. when someone makes a purchase from the advertisers website. Try to promote the advertisers who pay you for LEADs only as this will be easy for you.

Select only those advertisers who has got the Network Earnings of 3 green bars and more.
You can check both these criteria in the bottom of the Advertisers page where you take the Banner and Keyword link.

As a publisher of CJ, you can send promotional emails for your CJ advertisers to your friends, relatives, customers or to anyone. You have to take the banner link or text link from CJ for your advertisers (please refer your previous email “Get affiliate link” for taking links) and then you can send the link by email. Whenever someone clicks on your link, he will be sent to the advertiser’s website and if he/she takes some action like free signup with the advertisers or purchases something from the advertiser’s website, you get your commission in CJ.

This is one of the ways of marketing your advertisers. But to get better conversion from your email campaigns you must remember some of the points as given below:

1) You must provide both banner link as well as text link in your email.

2) You have to write some good subject as well as some good write up for your campaigns. You can put your banner and link in between the message.

3) Please be sure that your message is not going to junk or bulk mail. You can try by editing some text from your campaigns.

4) The email list you are using for email marketing must be opt-in so that it will not create SPAM.

Commission Junction Guide: Part - IV



Steps to Get the Affiliate link for the advertiser you want to promote:

Login to CJ and browse to the bottom of the page after logged in.You will see My Advertiser with Drop down menu.

You will get number of Advertisers in the Dropdown Menu. These are the advertisers you have got approval from. Now check the details of all the advertisers by selecting from the menu one by one and clicking on Go button. You can check the details like what are their products and services, how much commission they are giving and what is the criteria of giving commission, network earnings and EPC in Network Performance. From these details, you can choose the best advertiser you want to promote so that you can get the maximum earning. You need to get the affiliate link of the advertiser you want to promote as CJ tracks your work through that affiliate link only


Below I have explained steps as to how you will take Affiliate links for your Merchants

Login to http://www.cj.com/ with your username and password.
After you logged in to CJ, just scroll to the bottom of the CJ. You will see
My Advertisers with drop down menu and Go! button.


Click on the Arrow in the drop down menu. You will see number of advertisers from which you have got approval. These are the advertisers you have got permission to promote them and earn commission from them. (If you don't see any advertiser in the list, it means you have not applied to the advertisers. Please refer your email "applying for merchants", apply to the advertisers and you will get the approval in 2-3 days time.)
Select one of the advertisers which you think is the best to promote for you and the one you are interested in so that you can generate good commission. After selecting the advertiser, click on Go button.

You will get a new window for Advertiser details.

On the right hand side, you will get Get Links section and in that you will get different types of links i.e. Banner, Text Link and Keyword Link.


These are various type of links that we will use to promote our Merchant. So if you want to promote through Email marketing OR by placing on your website (if you have), you have to use Banner link or even Text Link. If you want to promote through email marketing you have to send the banner by placing in your email. Below are the steps on how to design a banner by using the Banner Link. Here we are taking the example of http://www.ebay.in/. It gives up to $3 commission to the publisher for promotion and its criteria are: A visitor becomes a confirmed, active user of eBay within 30 days of registration


Please Note: Don't get confused about the terms "Email marketing" , " Google AdWords". We will explain it in later pages (also some description has been provided in E-books). For the time being simply follow the steps and learn them

Now come to the Get Links area where there are 3 links Banner, Text Link and Keyword Link.


Click on Banner.


After clicking a new window will be opened where you will get number of banners.
Select any one or two banners by clicking on the small check box on the left hand side.
After selecting the banner, scroll to the top OR bottom where you will see 3 buttons Select Action, Select All and Perform Action.


Now select Get HTML from Select Action menu and then click on Perform Action.
Then you will get your Get HTML page with your selected banners and with your code. Also you will see different options with check boxes in front of them.


Then click the check box Yes on the right hand side of “For use in email?”

You will get the HTML code in the rectangular box below Update Link Code and your HTML code will be something like this:



Click on "Highlight code/ Copy code" button and the whole HTML will be copied.

Now open one notepad file from the Start button on your bottom left of Desktop Screen

Paste the HTML code in the notepad.

Now click on File and then save.

It will ask for the file name. Give any file name and give the extension as .html and save the file on desktop.( e.g. suppose you want to give file name as Test then write Test.html and then save)

Then you will see the file Test on your desktop. Open the file and you will see the banner.

Links to use in Free Classifieds OR Google AdWords:

If you want to promote through Google AdWords or free classifieds you have to use Keyword Link.

Click on Keyword Link.

Then you will get another page with keywords link.
Just check the check box in keyword link and then select Get HTML from Select Action menu and then click on Perform Action.

You will get the Code in the rectangular box below Update Link code and your Code will be something like this.
http://www.jdoqocy.com/click-1630574-10375271

The above link is the affiliate link you have to use in Google AdWords or free classified. You have to use this link in Destination URL in Google AdWords. CJ tracks your work through this link only. You will get further knowledge about Google AdWords in our series of emails and in the supplementary books provide with the package.

Applying for Merchants / Advertisers:

Procedure for how to Apply for the Advertisers Login to CJ with your username and password.


After Login come to the bottom of the page. You will find:

"Show all advertisers: in my country or servicing my country"

Click on 'Servicing My Country'You will get another page with Advertiser Search Result.





Now,Click on "Apply to Program" and "Select All" button.

Now select 200 instead of 25 from the drop down menu. Then click on "Select All" button and then click "Apply to Program" button.Click on Select All and then click Apply to Program. A pop-up window will appear. Scroll down the window. While scrolling down you might find some check boxes, leave them as it is and scroll till the end, until you see CONTINUE tab there. Click on continue tab. Once again if Continue option comes click on it. Now if you are able to see CLOSE tab, click on it to close the window and you will automatically come back to the Advertiser search result.


You don't need to worry if you get the message "No advertiser selected". Just click continue.


Please note that, if there is any problem in applying to the advertiser after selecting 200 advertisers, select only 25 advertisers at a time and apply. You can go to 2, 3 , 4 .. pages and follow the same procedure.


With in 1-2 days time, you will get the messages in your email from number of advertisers for the approval. You don't need to do anything with the emails. You can delete them if you wish or can keep them.Now if you wish you can logout from your CJ.com account. We will have to wait for the approval of Merchants for 2-3 days. Meanwhile you can read PDF file provided in the CD and CJU online.

Commission Junction Guide: Part - II



I



Join CJ and Get Username and Password Immediately

Before following the below given steps, make sure your have Internet Explorer 5.5 or above installed on your PC. Disable any pop-up blockers, if there are.

Follow the steps described below, in order they are mentioned to become a member of CJ

Click on the Link

https://signup.cj.com/member/publisherSignUp.do Publisher Application sign up page will appear. You are called as publisher.

Select Language as English, select your country (India in our case), and Select functional currency as USD, if your are registering from India.
Click on NEXT.

A Warning Pop up window should appear. Simply Click CLOSE on that window.
PUBLISHER APPLICATION: Step 2 of 2 page will appear.

You will see Service Agreement Scroll down the text box, click on Accept. Check right on Privacy Policy check boxes.

Next it asks for Website or Newsletter name. We assume that at this point of time you are not having a website of your own. If you are enrolled in any newsletter, you can mention it's name or else write " Google AdWords", which signifies the name of the promotional campaign you will be carrying. No hard and Fast rules, though. Don't leave this field blank.

Next it asks for Website URL. As you don't have one, leave that field blank. Delete the http:// written over there.

Once again we are repeating the above line: Delete the http:// written over there
Leave the "describe your website" field as blank.

Next it asks for Website category. Select one which you feel is appropriate. You will have to select one to complete your registration. You can select Web Services > Search Engine otherwise you can select any category.

Next it asks for promotional methods. You can select all the 4 methods of promotion.

Next field asks "Does your website offer incentives..." As you don't have a website at this point of time, simply click on "NO".

Next comes "Contact information and "Company Information". These are general fields to fill, so we are not giving an explanation here. Provide a valid email ID as that email ID will be your CJ login name. Leave Tax ID and Tax Classification as blank, if you reside outside US. You can enter your information and phone number in company information.

Don't enter anything in the field 'Organization Fax', 'Tax ID', 'Tax classification' and VAT number. Just leave them blank.

In the Payment Information, select "Check" (Cheque), if you are from India. Check the Payee's name. You will receive Cheque in this name.

Next it will ask you to enter characters in to box below. This security norm now a day is followed by almost all companies, to prevent from Auto Form Submission, spam. If you are not able to see any randomly printed characters, then there is some problem with your version of Internet Explorer. Try restarting your system or get a new copy of Internet Explorer 5.5 or above installed. If still the problem persists, try it with some other computer. Please check all the characters in the image properly for small or capital letters otherwise your form will not be submitted.

Click on Accept Term. And you are done.

CJ will send you an email regarding login information. Your username will be the your email ID and password will be sent to you by CJ via email. If not found in your inbox, check for the same in your junk or bulk mail folder.

Don't leave without reading the steps below

You will get your password in the email and a W-8BEN tax form.
This tax form is necessary to fill up and send to CJ by email or fax but don't send it now. Allow your account in CJ to reach at least 25$ first.
